Campus Construction

Robert R. Martin Groundbreaking Shovel

Robert R. Martin Groundbreaking Shovel.

Like any other campus in the country, Eastern is constantly growing and changing to meet the needs of students. In recent years, outdated dorm halls were razed and replaced with new halls. In the case of Todd and Dupree Halls, a new rec center has taken their lot. Some of Eastern’s memorable buildings were swept up with the tide of progress. Memorial Hall, part of Central University, was torn down to make way for a newer dorm hall. Ellendale House once stood where Whitlock Building now stands. EKU’s biggest boom in construction happened during the President Robert R. Martin years. President Martin would use this shovel to dedicate grounds for construction projects. While this new era of building may not match Martin’s era, Eastern is still an ever-changing campus.
