Miami Masonic Classic Basketball

Autographed basketball from the 1983-84 Miami Masonic Classic.

Eastern basketball has roots all the way back to the early 20th century.  The first campus team was coached in 1909 by instructor Clyde Wilson. Wilson led the team to their first victory in 1909 over Berea College. Since Wilson, there have been 19 coaches, with our current coach, A.W. Hamilton, leading since 2018. Several of the coaches were in charge of multiple sports teams, not only basketball. Paul McBrayer is known as the"winningest" coach in Eastern's history after he led our school to three OVC regular season titles and two NCAA tournaments. He was inducted into the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame in 1987 and the EKU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. Several previous players have gone to play in the NBA and Eastern currently plays in the Ohio Valley Conference.  However, basketball is more than a men’s sport at Eastern. Women have played since 1907 and continue playing today, 111 years later. This autographed basketball is from the 1983-1984 Miami Masonic Classic game.
