Western vs. Eastern Basketball Game Ticket, 1964.
East versus west. Colonels versus Hilltoppers. The Eastern and Western Kentucky University rivalry is one of the most famous in the history of our two schools. Whether basketball or football, the two schools have competed against each other for years in the “Battle of the Bluegrass.” While WKU isn’t Eastern’s only rivalry, it’s definitely one of the most significant. The two teams first met on the football field in 1914 with Eastern taking the win. The rivalry has certainly been eventful: there was a fight on the sidelines in a 1972 football game, a forfeited football game in 1932, and the renewal of the basketball rivalry just a few years ago. This ticket is from a 1964 basketball match. It was a close win for the Colonels who topped the Hilltoppers 70-65.
