EKU Poker Set

EKU Poker Set, 1997.

This poker set may seem the same as any other, but this set is unique to EKU. The maroon and white chips aren’t the only ties it has to our campus. It was designed and built right here at Eastern, in the Industrial Education and Technology Department. This program involved classes which may be better known as “shop” classes. Industrial Arts degrees have been offered at EKU from as early as the 1920s. In the 1967s, Industrial Arts Professor James S. Way made Eastern history as the first full-time African American faculty member. Today, Industrial Arts goes by a different name: Art and Design. It offers a variety of concentrations, including ceramics, jewelry making, and photography.
