As students across the country started to protest hot topics, such as the Vietnam War, Eastern students started off with blood drives for the soldiers in Southeast Asia. But Eastern had its fair share of protests in the traditional sense, as well.

In 1969, a student protester read aloud the names of those killed in Vietnam, while standing on the steps of Keen Johnson. After the Kent State shootings of May 4, 1970, Eastern students were goaded into campus-wide protests. Three days after the shootings, Jim Pellegrinon led protesters down Richmond’s Main Street.
