The Messiah

The Messiah

Messiah album cover.

First performed in 1919 by the women and men of the campus Glee Clubs, the annual production of The Messiah became a campus tradition. By 1930, both The Messiah and the annual Hanging of the Greens became annual campus holiday celebrations. In 1931, the ceremony became a joint presentation with students from Berea College. The concert was performed annually until 2009. While traditions like The Messiah and the Hanging of the Greens are no more, EKU still has some Christmas traditions like the choir’s annual Deck the Hall concert.
