Description An account of the resource Robert Foster Collins (1906-1999) was born in Lansing, Michigan to Frank Noble and Grace Foster Collins. He received his formal education in the public schools of southern Michigan and graduated with a B.S.F in 1928 from Michigan State University. In 1929 he obtained a M.F. degree from the Yale Forest School of Yale University. After a stint in the military and other forestry related jobs he was assigned in 1953 as forest supervisor of the Cumberland National Forest (renamed Daniel Boone National Forest in the 1960s) in Kentucky. During his tenure the Forest Service successfully resisted the encroachment of strip miners in the forest and saw the rise of an active conservation movement in the region. Most of the materials in this collection relate to Mr. Collins' occupation as a United States Forest Service administrator. Title A name given to the resource Morris Family Postcards Description An account of the resource All but two of the cards in this collection are addressed to Mrs. Ola Morris, Beechwood, KY (Owen County). One is addressed to Mrs. Ida Wiley in Georgetown, KY (Scott County), and another to Miss Ola Wiley in Tacketts Mill (Owen County), KY. Ola Wiley Morris (1899-1972) was the daughter of Martin L. and Ida J. Wiley and married Arthur Morris. All of the postcards in this collection appear to be lithographed cards and most are greeting or inspirational cards. There are several cards depicting locations in Kentucky and North Carolina. The cards contain family news and are typical, brief comments about such day to day activities and events as making plum preserves, cutting corn, cutting tobacco, river too high to cross on the ferry, "why don't you write," and how everyone is doing. Description An account of the resource Patricia J. Novak was the pianist for the EKU Women's Gymnastics team while she was a graduate student at Eastern. She played for the floor exercises during practices and meets. Ms. Novak also wrote most of the music she played and her compositions are part of the collection. She also served as the unofficial team photographer and the collection includes several hundred photographs that she took of the team during practice and competitions. This collection contains team scrapbooks, news clippings, scorecards and information about the disbanding of the program. Also included in the scrapbooks are some EKU theater programs as one of the gymnasts also performed in several plays. Only a portion of this collection has been digitized.
