In 1921 she married Everett Pfanstiel in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Everett graduated from Transylvania University in 1916. Josephine taught in the Bracken and Carlisle County school districts until 1934 and Everett was the Bracken County School superintendent. This collection consists mostly of photographs taken when Josephine Shawhan was a student at EKSNS. Most of the photos are of friends, but there are also a number of photos of classes or class excursions she attended as a student. Several photos are from Everett and were taken at Transylvania University.
