Title A name given to the resource Taylor, Jimmy Photographs Description An account of the resource Jimmy Taylor was a local studio photographer who worked in Richmond from 1942-1967. He shot many of the Eastern yearbook portraits and group photos. In addition to this he also did studio portraits for local schools and the general public. He photographed places, events and groups throughout the county as well as duplication of old photographs, Bible records, military records and other documents that people needed copies of. The collection contains nearly 30,000 negatives and prints, with about 90% of the collection being negatives. Van Peursem founded the Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp in the midst of the Depression in 1936. Faced with a lack of experienced music students entering Eastern, he founded the camp to introduce students to music in the hope that they would then attend Eastern and study music education and therefore improve music programs in secondary schools. Foster Music Camp continues to provide music education for middle and high school students every summer. <br /><br />This collection consists of the records of the camp including photographs, attendance lists, sound recordings of concerts and the camp publication, Bandanna. <br /><br />Only a portion of this collection has been digitized. Title A name given to the resource EKU Photographs Description An account of the resource The Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Photograph Collection consists of photographs and negatives of students, faculty, and events at EKU. Subjects range from individual faculty headshots and classroom pictures to commencement and candid everyday student life photos. Organizational pictures, shots of campus in general, athletics and other official photos taken from the university photographer are also included. Many of these images were taken for publication in marketing materials or for use in the school newspaper, yearbook and alumni magazines. The collection also includes snapshots taken by employees attending events. The collection may be used for all types of research, keeping in mind that individuals are often unidentified, so search broadly. All images available have been described here, but not all are scanned. Ledford (1927-2006) is recognized throughout Appalachia and beyond as a master craftsman of dulcimers and other instruments, a skilled musician, and a creative man filled with joy and gentle humor. In addition to his work as a luthier, Ledford was an accomplished musician, able to play 13 different instruments. In 1976 he organized a bluegrass group, Homer Ledford and the Cabin Creek Band, which performed throughout Kentucky for well over a quarter century. The band performed in Ecuador in 1989 and at the Ireland International Bluegrass Festival in the early 1990s. This collection documents his work as both luthier and musician. Of note are ledgers that document many of his instruments.<br /><br />Only a portion of this collection has been digitized.
