There is some personal correspondence scattered through the collection as well. Collected materials cover a wide variety of topics across the entire state of Kentucky and consist of state reports, brochures, pamphlets and more. A manuscript about Thoroughbred horses and horse farms of the Bluegrass is also included. However, most materials collected for Mabel Kunkel's book on Abraham Lincoln are not included in this collection. The papers also include records from the Telford Community Center for the years 1937-1977 and include board minutes, financial records, donor records and other notes and documents. Description An account of the resource Robert Foster Collins (1906-1999) was born in Lansing, Michigan to Frank Noble and Grace Foster Collins. He received his formal education in the public schools of southern Michigan and graduated with a B.S.F in 1928 from Michigan State University. In 1929 he obtained a M.F. degree from the Yale Forest School of Yale University. After a stint in the military and other forestry related jobs he was assigned in 1953 as forest supervisor of the Cumberland National Forest (renamed Daniel Boone National Forest in the 1960s) in Kentucky. During his tenure the Forest Service successfully resisted the encroachment of strip miners in the forest and saw the rise of an active conservation movement in the region. Most of the materials in this collection relate to Mr. Collins' occupation as a United States Forest Service administrator. Of particular interest to the researcher is Collins' research notes and draft of his manuscript on The History of the Daniel Boone National Forest. In addition, there is information about pioneer Kentucky history and material about conservation and environmental issues in Kentucky during the last quarter of the 20th century. Included is a large collection of color slides which Collins took of Winchester and Clark County historical sites and structures and of field and streams and flora and fauna of Kentucky. The papers also contain information about weapons a favorite subject of Collins. Only a portion of this collection has been digitized. Title A name given to the resource Clay, Green Papers Description An account of the resource Green Clay was born at White Hall on 11 August 1871 and was named Guy Ephrium Herrick. He was the son of John Frank and Mary Clay Herrick. Mary Clay was the oldest daughter of Cassius M. Clay, the "Lion of White Hall." When his parents divorced his mother began calling him Green Clay and at her insistence he changed his name to Green Clay after he reached 21. Green attended school in Richmond and high school in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was a student at the University of Michigan for two years, Central University for two years, and graduated from Columbia College in Washington, DC with the LL.B. degree in 1893. He practiced law in Richmond and Cincinnati. He began working in the newspaper business sometime after 1900 and worked for papers in Ohio, New York, Richmond and Tennessee. He also wrote numerous articles and pamphlets about the history of Richmond and Madison County and worked for the WPA supervising the indexing of court records. He also worked as city clerk, purchasing agent and auditor of Richmond. The strength of the Green Clay collection is the photographs, which were mostly taken in the first three decades of the twentieth century. Although there are some portraits, there are also many photos of Madison county, including historic sites, river scenes, historic homes and even a moonshine still. The collection also includes some of his published historical articles and other Madison County publications. Only a portion of this collection has been digitized. Title A name given to the resource Bagby, Robert Photographs Description An account of the resource The photos in this collection were taken by Dr. Robert E. Bagby, ranging from the 1970's up to about 2008, though most are from the 1990s and early 2000s. Much of the collection is associated with Eastern Kentucky University, especially the athletics teams and the College of Justice and Safety, where Dr. Bagby taught. The collection also includes many news and public events in Richmond including the Glen Rogers hearing, Paul Patton's "Patton to the People" tour, Colin Powell's "America's Promise" tour, and the Harris-Scott-Stivers Memorial Dedication. Dr. Bagby also covered the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, and the Blue Grass Army Depot. Dr. Bagby was a professor for EKU's College of Justice and Safety from 1972 to 1992 as well as a member of the Richmond chapter of the Rotary Club. He provided photos to the Richmond Register and other local news sources. Dr. Bagby passed away on August 17, 2011 at the age of 82 and is buried in Richmond Cemetery.
