Van Peursem founded the Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp in the midst of the Depression in 1936. Faced with a lack of experienced music students entering Eastern, he founded the camp to introduce students to music in the hope that they would then attend Eastern and study music education and therefore improve music programs in secondary schools. Foster Music Camp continues to provide music education for middle and high school students every summer. Title A name given to the resource EKU Photographs Description An account of the resource The Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Photograph Collection consists of photographs and negatives of students, faculty, and events at EKU. Subjects range from individual faculty headshots and classroom pictures to commencement and candid everyday student life photos. Organizational pictures, shots of campus in general, athletics and other official photos taken from the university photographer are also included. Many of these images were taken for publication in marketing materials or for use in the school newspaper, yearbook and alumni magazines.
