At a call me eting of the Executive Committee of t he Eastern Kentucky State Nonnal School, there were present J. A. Sullivan , J . G. Crabbe , and R. E. Turley . Mr . Bogard, Manage r in Charge of the Light and Power I Plant - Mr . L. B. Herrington and Mr . Harvey Chenault , rep resenting 0the Richmond Electric and Power Company ,appeared before the Committee and stated that the plant of the ::, \ ,'.:.h. ,,, • ,,q E \e1: t.v t"c. -r,o~c_y C l/t" Y ent: t:. 0 1hen~ Co Richmond Electric and Power Compan y had been seriously damaged by an SX}Jlosion and that it was unable to furnish the City and citizens of Richmond with sufficient current <,. o/ q for street and domestic lighting and a ske d that the Light and Power Plant of the School furnish current for Lancaster Avenue, Oak Street, High Street and Breck Avenue , till the Richmond Electric and Power Company could repair the i r plant . A discussion of the matter was engaged in and Mr . Bogard stated that the School Plant could furni s h the re quired current without damaging or injuring the Plant . I A letter of even da t e from t he Richmond Electric a nd Power Company addressed to President Crabbe on the matter is herewith filed . On mot i on of President Crabbe, it wa s ordered that Mr . Bogard might furnish cur r ent from our Plant to the Electric and Power Company as above stated for tonight and tomorrow ni ght , pending an investigation and report from Prof. Anderson with reference to the capacity and condition of our Plant and his recommendations. Title A name given to the resource EKU Photographs Description An account of the resource The Eastern Kentucky University (EKU) Photograph Collection consists of photographs and negatives of students, faculty, and events at EKU. Subjects range from individual faculty headshots and classroom pictures to commencement and candid everyday student life photos. Organizational pictures, shots of campus in general, athletics and other official photos taken from the university photographer are also included. Many of these images were taken for publication in marketing materials or for use in the school newspaper, yearbook and alumni magazines. The collection also includes snapshots taken by employees attending events. The collection may be used for all types of research, keeping in mind that individuals are often unidentified, so search broadly. All images available have been described here, but not all are scanned. Photographs with only a description can be requested by filling out a duplication request (see the link in the menu at the top of the page). Title A name given to the resource Mitchell, Roberta Dearborn Scrapbook Subject The topic of the resource Eastern Kentucky State Normal School and Teachers College Description An account of the resource Roberta Dearborn Mitchell (1899-1991) was a student at Eastern Kentucky State Normal School and Teachers College from 1919 to 1925 when she graduated with a teaching degree. The photographs and ephemera in the scrapbook give researchers a good look at the life of an Eastern student in the early 1920s. The photographs include several of George D. Smith's photos of student excursions from 1924.<br /><br />Only a portion of this collection has been digitized. These were taken by the university photographer and most are photographs that were taken for publication or promotion. Many of these negatives were printed and can be found in the <a href="https://digitalcollections.eku.edu/items/browse?collection=78">EKU photograph collection</a>.<br /><br />The collection includes photos of campus, events, students and faculty and staff. There are also some images of locations outside Eastern such as Cumberland Falls, Calumet Farm and the Garden of Hope.<br /><br />This inventory is not complete and many negatives can only be accessed by contacting Special Collections and Archives.
