<text>This collection of sheet music came from the Mitchell family of Jessamine County. The collection includes a number of pieces from Kentuckians such as Stephen Foster and Will S. Hays. Other pieces were published in Lexington or Louisville, Kentucky. There are also multiple pieces of music from the Civil War and World War I. Other pieces are from classical composers such as Mozart and Strauss or popular early twentieth century composers such as Irving Berlin. A few pieces of music have lyrics handwritten on the back. In all this collection is a good representation of music that would have been played in Kentucky homes from 1850 through 1935.

Only a portion of this collection has been digitized. See the Finding Aid for a description of the entire collection.</text>
