Description: An oil painting of Dr. Coates. Sudduth Goff, the artist, was a personal friend of Dr. Coates. Goff was born in Eminence, KY, in 1887 but spent much of his life in Chicago. Goff also painted a portrait of Judge Sullivan. The Alumni Association commissioned the portrait after a 1930 meeting and planned to unveil it during the 1931 commencement ceremonies. A list of donors was to be sealed with the picture. See article in Eastern Progress 11/21/30 p.1. Item was purchased for $2,500.
