Description: Oil Painting of Thomas Coates. According to an article in the 11/21/1930 Eastern Progress, the Alumni Association commissioned the portrait in 1930 and planned to unveil it during the 1931 commencement ceremonies. A list of donors was to be sealed with the picture. Also according to this article, Sudduth Goff was a personal friend of Dr. Coates. Goff was born in Eminence, KY, in 1887 but spent much of his life in Chicago. He also painted a portrait of Judge Sullivan (located at EKU). Item was purchased for $1,000.
