Jerry Puleo's obituary appeared in the May 7, 1999, Lexington Herald-Leader. The obituary indicates that Puleo was born in 1913 in Brooklyn, NY, one of fourteen children of Italian immigrants. According to his obituary, an uncle sent him to study art in Paris when he was 9. An article in the March 13, 1937, Lexington Herald Leader indicates that Puleo graduated from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, in the 1930s. Around 1975, Puleo became "artist in residence" at Lexington's Campbell House Inn. Specializing in portraits, Puleo lived in the hotel and set up a studio in the front lobby where he often painted portraits of the guests.
