Description: Oil painting of Dick Mayo Allen. An article in the December 6, 1984 Richmond Register (p. 16) indicates that the portrait was unveiled during the dedication ceremonies for the Dick Mayo Allen Room on Dec. 6, 1984 Allen served as the fourth librarian of Crabbe Library. There was a picture of Mrs. Allen, receiving the portrait in the January 3, 1985 Richmond Register (p. 10). The caption to this photo: "Current and former members of the library staff contributed to a fund to purchase the commemorative portrait." A memo sent from the Allen Committee to the Library staff on Sept. 7, 1984, indicates that Jim Cox Studios used a technique that involved placing brush oil over a black and white picture to produce the portrait.
