Title: Letter from James H. Embry to French Tipton
Description: All but one of the next seven letters are written on stationary for the Law Office of J.H. Embry, Washington D.C.. Consequently, they are related in many ways and provide a glimpse of Judge Tipton's political connections. The first addresses a discrepancy that Tipton raised regarding a short lived post office station in either Madison, or one of the surrounding counties. Interestingly, and an all too common circumstance for the period, Embry mentions the Post Office Department records for the area in questioned were burned. Possibly during the events of the War of 1812.
